Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between EPON and GPON and which does my ISP use? β
EPON (Ethernet PON) and GPON (Gigabit PON) are two different fiber optic network standards. EPON is commonly used by ISPs like PTCL and older fiber deployments, while GPON is used by newer ISPs like StormFiber and Nayatel for higher speeds. The HG3 supports both standards, making it compatible with virtually any fiber ISP in Pakistan. Contact your ISP to confirm which standard they use if unsure.
Can the HG3 replace my ISP's ONT and router as a single device? β
Yes. The HG3 combines an ONT (optical network terminal) and a Wi-Fi router in one device β eliminating the need for two separate boxes. It connects directly to your ISP's fiber drop cable via the SC/APC optical port and provides both wireless and wired internet to your home.
Does the HG3 support VoIP phone calls? β
Yes. The HG3 includes a VoIP (FXS) port that allows you to connect a standard analog telephone handset to make and receive VoIP calls through your ISP's telephony service.
Is the HG3 suitable for ISP deployment or only home use? β
Both. ISPs can provision and manage it remotely via TR-069 for mass deployment. Home users can also configure it independently through the web interface with the required optical parameters from their ISP.
What optical connector does the HG3 use? β
The HG3 uses a standard SC/APC (green connector) optical port β the most common fiber connector type used in Pakistan. Your ISP's fiber drop cable should have a matching SC/APC connector.
