The HG3 auto-detects both EPON and GPON, so it works on more fiber networks, but has only 2 LAN ports and no phone port. The HG6 is GPON-only but gives you 4 LAN ports and a voice port for VoIP. If your ISP uses GPON and you need more wired ports or a landline, choose the HG6.
It works with ISPs running GPON fiber. Check with your ISP whether their network is GPON or EPON before buying. If they use EPON or you're unsure, the HG3 supports both. You'll also need to give your ISP the HG6's serial number for provisioning.
Yes. The HG6 has a voice port for a standard handset, so you can make VoIP calls through your ISP's phone service if they offer one.
No. The HG6 requires an active GPON fiber connection. It has no Ethernet WAN port. For a standalone router, choose the Tenda AC5 or N301.
Initial registration requires your ISP to whitelist the HG6's serial number on their network. Once registered, you can configure Wi-Fi settings and LAN through the web interface.
